What type of information is needed to drop bombs on enemy locations? Or to launch missiles? The information has to be 100% correct before sending precious resources as Air Force personnel and millions of dollars of equipment into harms way. The Knowledge Management specialists are responsible for the coordination and distribution of information and data play a critical role in every department of the Air Force. Knowledge Management Specialists create, update, and dispose of everything from educational and mission essential training manuals to managing the flow, distribution, life cycle and information integral to Air Force mission operations. Specialty Summary The Knowledge Management Specialist performs, supervises, or manages a variety of communications and information management (IM) tasks and activities including s taff betreuung, publishing, records, administrative communications, and workgroup management (information systems and technology support). Duties and Responsibilities The AFSC 3D0X1, Knowledge Operations Management performs IM functions and manages electronic and manual publications and forms development, design, control, storage, and dissemination. They acquire and distribute publications and forms using manual or electronic means providing guidance to ensure publications and forms meet prescribed style, format, and legal and statutory requirements. The Knowledge Operations Management specialist implements procedures for manual and electronic creation, control, coordination, dissemination, and disposal of administrative communications. Establishes and maintains offices of records. Creates manual and automated file plans. Applies file cutoff procedures and disposes of and retrieves records. Operates and manages automated records informatio n management system. Operates and manages a records staging area for inactive records storage. Complies with Privacy Act (PA) and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) procedures and provides assistance to ensure others comply. Provides PA, FOIA, and records management training. Operates the Base Information Transfer System and Official Mail Center using manual and automated systems. Knowledge Operations Management Specialists performs workgroup management (information systems and technology support) functions and manages hardware and software. Members of this AFSC perform configuration, management, and initial diagnostics of information systems. Coordinates and documents information systems repairs. Runs system diagnostics and determines cause of hardware and software failures. Removes and replaces components and peripherals to restore system operation. Installs and configures software operating systems and applications. Provides customer service to assist in operation, restoration, a nd configuration of information systems. Develops and implements web sites and pages. Manages and assists others in content management of web sites and pages. Prepares and processes information systems requirements to support mission needs. Monitors and manages information system security programs. Reports security incidents and formulates and applies corrective security procedures. Knowledge Operations Management also provides IM support and assists the support staff with a range of tasks including records management administrative communications information flow including processing, controlling, and distributing mail publishing management workshop management. Operates information systems (stand alone and networked) to create, collect, use, access, disseminate, maintain, and dispose of information. Helps customer determine life cycle management of their information. Manages IM processes and activities. Responsible for overall administration, management, and life cycle of informati on and control of information resources. Specialty Qualifications Knowledge. Knowledge. Knowledge is mandatory of policies and procedures relating to the life cycle of information and control of information resources, including administrative communications, official records, publications, and forms information systems (operation and support), and general office management principles. Education. For entry into this specialty, completion of high school with courses in business, English composition, computer science or information systems, mathematics, and keyboarding is desirable. Training. The following training is mandatory for award of the AFSC indicated3A031. Completion of a basic IM course.3A071. Completion of the advanced IM course.Experience. Also, experience performing functions such as office manage ment publications and forms management or preparing, controlling, and processing written communications. 3A071. The enlisted Air Force Job Specialty Code (3D0X1) is earned after completing the 7.5 week basic military training and the technical school. As with most badges, a s you progress in your job level the airmen will earn a senior badge after 7 skill level or the master badge after 5 years in the 7 skill level.
